We Need Your Support

The excitement is building for Santa Monica’s 36th season — a season that builds upon the proud tradition of the Club, and the recent successes that have moved the organization into the top tier of American rugby.

Having won back-to-back national club championships in 2005 and 2006, the Dolphins were invited to join the Rugby Super League in 2007 where they compiled a winning record and just missed a playoff berth while competing in the toughest conference in the U.S.

The women’s team, beginning their fourth season, looks to extend Santa Monica’s winning ways.

The Club’s youth programs continue to grow, with competition ranging from U-8 non-contact, to girls and boys high school tackle rugby.

A true rugby family, with a diverse and loyal membership and fan base, Santa Monica Rugby Club has been called a “model” for the future of rugby in the United States.

As we continue grow and expand our programs at all levels, we continue to need your support.
Founded in 1972 by playing graduates of UCLA, USC, and St. Mary’s College, Santa Monica has known championship rugby from the very beginning. Santa Monica has 7 conference titles, and 15 regional tournament championships. Santa Monica has also had 20 players named to the United States national team, including two captains. Presently, the Club has over 200 active members from all walks of life, and a substantial coterie of former players who support the Club in a variety of activities.

Like rugby players everywhere, the Club members are attorneys, contractors, hi-tech, business and entertainment industry professionals, who come from across the country and from around the world to play in one of America’s finest cities, Santa Monica, California. Our youth programs include boys and girls of all ages from a variety of Westside and South Los Angeles neighborhoods.

All sponsorship packages directly maintain the Club and its season. Interested parties will receive a budget for the 2008 Season, including income and expenses, a Club history, some information about the sport of rugby, a schedule, and sponsorship opportunities. Since rugby is still mainly an amateur sport in the United States, most of our players pay for much of their own equipment and travel, are responsible for their own health insurance, and play national-caliber rugby while juggling full-time professional careers and sometimes young families.

The popularity of rugby has increased dramatically in the past decade, as evidenced by the rosters of clubs all across Southern California. In the Southland alone, 4,000 active players — from colleges to the premier division — along with their friends and families — make up a unique sporting culture that continues to grow. Typical first division matches attract hundreds of spectators every weekend, and championships sometimes attract numbers in the thousands along with television coverage.

Your sponsorship can really make a difference for the Santa Monica players, and not just in the hunt for a men’s championship this year. We also need your support to grow our youth programs which include boys and girls rugby from ages 8-16. We need your support to rapidly bring our new women’s team right alongside the men in national standing and reputation. We need your support to maintain the coaching and administrative infrastructure that has made Santa Monica one of the top CLUBS in the nation from top to bottom.

Thank you.
