SMRC Men’s Team Captain’s announcement

It is with great pleasure and pride that I announce this season’s Santa Monica Rugby Club Men’s Team Captain!

After two months of getting to know all the players, their strengths and weaknesses, and how they work together as a team, I have selected Phil Lydeard as Captain.

Phil leads as a player by always turning up to training early, doing his own personal warm-ups before training starts and is one of the hardest working players at all our trainings!

As a back-row forward Phil’s on-field work rate is always one of the highest and he is always at the heart of a turning point in the game where we start to take the upper hand.

Phil has captained us to our last three victories where we have managed stay undefeated this season. His teammates feed off his calm yet focused demeanor and draw confidence and belief from his positivity and sureness as he leads them from the front like all great leaders do.

I am thrilled and excited to make this announcement and am eager to see how Phil’s continued leadership impacts the success of our men’s team program!
