Old Boys Rally for ‘Sharkapalooza’

Saturday, June 6, marks the return of an Old Boys classic in Newport Beach

Numbers are building for the long -awaited return of a summertime favorite Old Boys tournament, Saturday, June 6. For years, Back Bay hosted the “Sharkapalooza” 15-a-side old boys tournament at their seaside grass pitch next to Balboa Pier in Newport Beach. But then Covid happened, and Back Bay lost access to the field for years to come.

Ages 40-and-up are welcome, whether you are a “new Old Boy” who’s just aged into your prime, or you’re a grizzled veteran of many Ruggerfests and Battles of the Bone. We’re looking to field a roster of 30 for the daylong, 4-5 game tournament of short halfs and unlimited open substitutions. We’ll have the jerseys and some swag, you bring your aching body. Big party to follow, but really the attraction is playing on one of the most beautiful rugby pitches in the world, and having a run at glory with your mates.
