SMRC Youth Win the U18 Boys Southern California Serevi 7s

Congratulations to Santa Monica Youth Rugby Club on winning the U18 Boys Southern California Serevi 7-a-side Series on Saturday in Fullerton. In winning the Fullerton Titans tournament on Aug 3, the team completed an unbeaten run of five weekend tournaments in a row, which commenced in Santa Monica on June 29th. The win yesterday makes this team the undisputed Southern California 7s Champions! The addition of the Serevi Series title yesterday follows the earlier achievement of winning the rugby 7s title at the California State Games in San Marcos on July 13th.

Coach Charlie Lydon summed up the impressive season by saying, “This is an exceptional team that showed great discipline and composure under pressure, especially in the Fullerton Titans final on Saturday to beat a strong Poway team, 22-14.  Our boys gave everything on the field in a fantastic team performance and our courageous defense was the difference at the end of each half.”  Coach Andrew Clark added, “Our boys had won the U18 15-a-side International Invitational at Fullerton on March 24th, and the California State 7-a-side Games at San Marcos on July 13th, so winning the Serevi 7-a-side Series on Saturday completes a wonderful season for the Santa Monica U18 boys.”
