The Santa Monica Women improved to 4-1 this past Saturday in their 12-10 win over Belmont. The start of the second half caught Santa Monica on its heels and Belmont scored just a minute into the half (7-5). Unable to regroup and being sucked in by the large forwards, Belmont scored once again in the 50th minute, but missed their conversion (7-10). Finally, the ‘Phins put their speed to use again and Rebecca Hearn scored a try when she exploited the wide, undefended edge of the pitch. (12-10).

The last 20 minutes of the game was a grueling, defensive battle with the ‘Phins again showing tenacity and heart in keeping Belmont out of the try zone. The ball was held up three times and Santa Monica successfully held onto the win by 2.

Santa Monica will play its last regular season match this Saturday, April 12 at 2:00 pm against Tempe, the current leader in the league. >
