Lady Dolphins go from strength to strength

The Santa Monica Women’s team has had a great couple of weekends with victories over San Diego and Old Pueblo.

The game against San Diego on 4/6 featured a fierce Santa Monica defense that stifled San Diego’s offensive efforts. That coupled with aggressive play from the Lady ‘Phins garnered a win with a final score of 26-12. Wing Leilani Martin scored 3 tries and Man of the Match Julia Notar notched her rookie try for the team. Hannah “Miley” Greene capped off the great team play with 3 conversions.

This past weekend called for a long road trip to compete against the Old Pueblo Lightning in Tucson. With a limited roster of 17, Santa Monica was able to battle the heat and showcase their defense once again and some fantastic back line plays. Their efforts resulted in a shutout, 36-0. Tries were scored by Christina Derhagopain, Emmy Vargas, Sarah “Hurricane” Harris, Rebecca “Skipper” Dickerson, Hannah Greene, and birthday girl, captain, and Man of the Match Ann Leese.  Greene also converted 3 tries.

The Lady ‘Phins final game is away at San Diego on 4/27, where they hope to use this momentum and put together a stellar performance to cap off the season.
