We are looking forward to our upcoming free youth clinics. Clinics will be held on Oct 5, 19 & Nov 9 at John Adams Middle School in Santa Monica (Location will be confirmed closer to the event). Clinics start promptly at 10AM so please arrive 10-15 minutes early to find parking and check in. Clinics will conclude at 11:30. Signup here: Clinic Registration

Youngers 2024-2025 Season (U9Flag-U14)
Newcomers are always welcome! Safety and fun are the top priorities as our certified coaching staff teach individual skills and team tactics. Training is two evenings a week in or near Santa Monica.
Practice: Practice starts Mid November and runs through Feb 26th. Tuesday/Thursday 5:30-7PM. Penmar Recreation Center 1341 Lake St. Venice, CA . With January practices at John Adams Middle School (JAMS) 2425 16th St Santa Monica, CA (permits pending).
Competition: Saturdays Jan 10- Feb 21. February 28th is an all day End of Season tournament for age groups U8-U14.
Registration Fee (Early Bird special until Dec 1): U9 Flag – $200, U10 – $240, U12 – $290, U14 – $295. Dec 1 all fees increase by $20. Fee includes fields for practice and games, club equipment, coaching, referees, athletic trainers at games, practice t-shirt and game day socks. Jerseys are provided on game day and returned. Boys Olders/High School 2026 Season (U16-U18)
Practice: Tuesday/Thursday 6:45-8:30 p.m. at Santa Monica High School football field. Practice begins Early February and runs through late May.
Competition: Saturdays March 14 – April 25. Playoffs May 2nd & 9th
Fees: U16 & U18 – $325 plus $40 USA Rugby Annual registration. Santa Monica fee includes fields, equipment, coaching, practice t-shirt and game day socks. Jerseys are provided on game day and returned. Rugby shorts available for purchase. Scholarships and financial aid available. Everyone plays. Contact youth@santamonicarugby.com to inquire.
Preseason activities (U16 & U18): Free youth clinics Oct 5, Oct 19 & Nov 9. High School Only Free Clinic and meeting in Dec/Jan. Preseason overnight camp to San Clemente March 7-8 and Post season tour to Utah (Mid May). (Separate fees apply for preseason events)
LETTER FROM OUR HIGH SCHOOL HEAD COACH
Year Round Sunday Beach Touch and Summer Thursday night Touch Rugby
We play touch rugby (non-contact) on the beach Sunday mornings year-round. A mixed group of adults (many parents and coaches) and kids play from 11:00am-12:45pm. The group plays just south of Tower 27 which is just south of Ocean Park Blvd. Parking is in lot 5S, 2600 Barnard Way. (Parking: two-hours max in the $1/hr lot OR in the main $12 all-day beach parking lot.) This mixed pickup game is all-ages (mostly 10 and up), both groups are a great opportunity to hone your rugby ball-handling skills. Please email youth@santamonicarugby.com in advance to see if there is a game scheduled and get added to the Weekly What’s app list.
Girls Rugby 7s Ages 12-15
Practice: Tuesday/Thursday 7:15-9PM at Santa Monica High School Football field. Practice begins in March and runs through late May. Parking entrance off Olympic Blvd.
Competition: Saturdays April 1 – May 13. Playoffs May 20th
Fees: $200 Fee includes fields, equipment, coaching, practice t-shirt and game day socks. Jerseys are provided on game day and returned. Rugby shorts available for purchase. Scholarships and financial aid available. Everyone plays.

Summer 7s
Each summer SCYR organizes various 7s tournaments in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego Counties hosted by different clubs. 2025 tournaments are scheduled for Saturdays June 7 – July 12. SMRC participates in 2-3 of the closer tournaments based on team interest and coach availability. 7s practice usually begins in early May and there is a low fee associated to cover the tournament costs and league fees.
Volunteer Opportunities
We are a volunteer run organization. We would not be a club without our volunteers. We need volunteers to help with large jobs like coaching, refereeing and team management as well as smaller jobs like field setup, promotions, ride sharing, raffle organization, gear and jersey laundering. The opportunities to volunteer are practically endless and can be tailored to meet your needs.
We also offer volunteer opportunities for your middle and high school youth who may need to earn school “Service Hours”.
